Nikaah ...

It was Ayesha's wedding with Asif yesterday. All dressed up , myself and rad started for the marriage. We reached the marriage hall 10 mins late ;) to find that the bride and the groom are yet to arrive :D. They arrived 10 mins later. The men and women were seated seperately, men on the ground floor and women on the first. It was a very simple ceremony , The priest read few verses from the Quran. Her father came up with two witness and she signs a document. The groom then signs the document and the marriage is registered. They are married !!!. The groom then comes up and takes the girl down. Friends and relatives wish them . Dinner follows ...
A very simple ceremony :-)

Having been accustomed to grand marriages I was pleasantly surprised when attended a muslim wedding in kerala.

So simple and doesn't cause much financial strain either.. the biggest coincidence was the names of the bride and groom of the wedding that i had attended and the one u have mentioned are the same..

Meera, the marriage is simple but there r a lot of ceremonies/rituals. Will write abt it sometime later.

For eg, after the girl and guy sign, the guy's bhabhi(anni) or Momaani(Athai - maternal aunts) will hold Kalkandu, Arkot(dont remember the name. - a nut a old man bites in Vicco Vajradanti powder ad), etc.(Sometimes even cricker biscuits) in a big red cloth and throw it over to everyone.

And a lot more.
